Help us create some great “meme-ories” for TYCA 2020!

As you may have noticed, we’ve gone a little “meme crazy” over here at  TYCA. What started with Sybil Priebe’s “Go to TYCA you will” Yoda meme, quickly moved into a flurry of memes about TYCA officers, speakers, and presentations.

The point has, of course, been to promote #TYCA2020 in a quest to smash last year’s conference numbers, and what started as a spontaneous (sometimes obsessive) meme-making adventure has now officially turned into the TYCA Meme Throwdown.

Here’s your challenge, should you choose to accept it:

Create your own TYCA 2020 meme and blast it on social media.  Whoever has the most likes/shares/retweets — or any combination of these — wins!  You have from now through the end of the TYCA conference — that is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25th — to get your meme a-trending.  Be sure to use #TYCA2020 when you post your meme.

Winners of the TYCA Meme Throwdown will be announced immediately after the final conference session at #TYCATransforming, so join us there from 5:30-6:30 pm on Wednesday, March 25th to find out the results of this contest.  We are lining up some awesome prizes for the winners, and the winning memes will also be featured here on the TYCA Archive.  FYI: Winners must be present at #TYCATransforming to receive their prizes.

We can’t wait to see all of the awesome TYCA “meme-ories” you’ll create!

(Many thanks to Cheryl Hogue-Smith, TYCA Chair, for helping to draft this post.)

It would “meme” a lot to us if you came to TYCA 2020!

Greetings, TYCA friends!  As the 2020 conference in Milwaukee, WI comes ever closer, we’re kicking our social media game into high gear as we work to promote this awesome event.  We present to you, the #TYCA2020 meme collection!

If you haven’t seen them making the rounds on Twitter, Instagram, and the like yet, never fear — we’ll be sharing the memes here as well and will update the archive every couple of days with new images.  Be sure to check back frequently.

Enjoy the smiles, share the memes, and then come join us in Milwaukee to experience TYCA 2020 in person!

TYCA 2020 — Transforming Our Profession for a Sustainable Future

Anticipation is building for the 2nd national TYCA Conference in Milwaukee, WI!  The big event is just over 5 weeks away, and we’re looking forward to another opportunity to meet with our TYC colleagues from across the nation to share ideas and learn from each other.

This year’s conference theme is “Transforming Our Profession for a Sustainable Future” and the opening session will include a special video message from Mike Rose.  TYCA Chair Cheryl Hogue-Smith will introduce Mr. Rose immediately following her welcome message.

We are lucky to have the author Matt Mendez as the keynote speaker at this year’s TYCA luncheon*.  Matt’s works include the short story collection Twitching and the YA novel Barely Missing Everything and his writing has appeared in Huizache, The Acentos Review, BorderSenses, Pank, and The Literary Review, just to name a few places.  Barely Missing Everything was named a 2019 Best YA Book by Kirkus, Seventeen Magazine, NBC Latino, and Texas Monthly (Matt Mendez).

At present, we’re in the process of finalizing the presentation schedule for TYCA 2020 and will have more information available as the conference date comes closer. Please check back here at the archive for details.

You definitely don’t want to miss out on TYCA 2020, so remember to register soon.  Registration fees for the TYCA Conference only will be $150, OR $260 with CCCC 2020 registration included.  For more information on registering for these events, including advance registration dates/fees, please visit https://cccc.ncte.org/cccc/conv.

*The TYCA luncheon is a ticketed event and you will not be able to attend without a ticket. You can purchase tickets for the luncheon when you register for the conference.  If you’ve already registered for the conference but did not purchase a ticket for the luncheon, there is a unique URL in your registration receipt email that will take you back into the system and allow you to add events. If that doesn’t work, then they will need to contact the Customer Service Department for NCTE. You cannot purchase the ticket only.
